Weekly Access, is your ticket to the latest music news. Whether it be a breakthrough band, or a favorite
classic re-emerging with some new material, we will have it covered.
This month's featured band is Placebo.
Placebo is:
- Brian Molko- Vocals/Guitar
- Steve Hewitt- Drums
- Stefan Osdale- Bass
The band formed when Brian Molko and Stefan Osdale met by chance at the South Kensington Tube Station in 1994.
The band's original name was "Ashtray heart" but then it became Placebo.
Although Brian Molko leads a very controversial life, he pokes fun at himself, and creates songs that are
a bit of a satire to himself.
At the peak of their success they were asked to perform at David Bowie's fiftieth birthday party at Madison
Square Garden.
Placebo has had a variety of sucesses that include:
- "Placebo"- July 17, 1996
- "Without You I'm Nothing"- October 12,1998
- "Black Market Music"- October 9, 2000
- "sleeping with Ghosts"- March 24, 2003
- "Once More with Feeling"- October 25, 2004
- "Meds"- March 13, 2006
Placebo's finished recording "Meds" in September 2005.In November of the same year, Molko revealed that they
worked on 15 new songs since the previous summer in the south of France. These new edgy tunes are a bit of a change, in the
aspect that they have more of a guitar line, which are especially predominant in the song "The Bitter End".
Placebo Trivia:
- The tune to "Pure Morning" came from when the band was looping feedback they liked when they recorded another
song.
- Brian Molko wrote the song "Infra-Red" literally backwards. He started the song with the last line in it,
and worked his way up to the first.
- A different video was shot for the song "Protege Moi" but could not be officially released.
